Fix 1: Forcing Skyrim to Select The Right GPU

  1. Go to Control Panel from the toolbar of your desktop.
  2. Choose Manage 3D Settings in the Control Panel
  3. Select Program Settings Tab
  4. Click the Add button next to the option “Select a program to customize.”
  5. Choose the Skyrim Special Edition executable file.
  6. Select the strongest GPU. (NVIDIA in this case) and confirm.

Also, go to the Global Settings tab. Switch off the following:

  • Vertical sync
  • Threaded optimization
  • Triple buffering

For AMD Graphics cards, the application will be slightly different.

  1. Navigate to AMD Radeon Settings.
  2. From the bottom, select Preference.
  3. Choose Radeon Additional Settings from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Switchable Graphics Application Settings under Power in the Radeon Additional Settings window.
  5. From All Applications, find Skyrim Special Edition
  6. Pick High Performance in the Graphics Settings
  7. Press Apply

Fix 2: Use Skyrim SE Launcher and decrease the shadow

Skyrim SE Launcher boosts up the performance by optimizing certain settings like decreasing the high resolution and so on so that smaller files can be saved. This will prevent recurring Skyrim crashes when I save.

  1. Browse to the location that saves the file “Skyrim.ini.”
  2. You may find it in the GPU’s Control panel. Go to Program Settings. You will get a customizing option. From there, go to Skyrim executable files.

Write or make following changes:

  • [Papyrus]
  • fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0
  • bEnableLogging=0
  • bEnableTrace=0
  • bLoadDebugInformation=0
  • iMinMemoryPageSize = 1025
  • iMaxMemoryPageSize = 3073
